NRCS very recently released their draft rule for their Agriculture Conservation Easement Program (ACEP), which combines many of the conservation programs under the newest Farm Bill.
COLT participated in a national call last week with NRCS Chief Weller. He and his staff went over the biggest changes and modifications to the rule. I typed up some notes from that phone call, summarizing the major changes. You can read the notes here.
There is now a 60-day comment period open for the rule, open up until April 28th. If you or your organization would like to comment, you can do so through this website (see the “Comment Now!” button). It is a great opportunity to offer our voice in making this program important here in Oregon.
COLT is working with state NRCS staff to review and make comments to the rule. We will continue to keep you all posted, as well as find opportunities for education around the proposed new rule.
Also, thanks to every who submitted applications for the COLT/LTA Advocacy Grant program. Grant awards will be announced by Monday March 9th.
