Great American Outdoors Act is law
It’s an exciting morning! We just watched the president’s signing ceremony and the Great American Outdoors Act was just signed into law! This will fully fund the Land And Water Conservation Fund (you probably know it as LWCF)—our nation’s longstanding and most important program for protecting our special lands and waters.
This is a huge victory for Oregon land trusts and conservation work nationwide. We are so grateful for everyone’s support and especially Oregon’s delegation. To Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, Congressman Greg Walden, Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Congressman Peter DeFazio, Congressman Kurt Schrader, Senator Jeff Merkley and Senator Ron Wyden: thank you for leading the charge! In fact, we have a special video just for you to say thanks!
Please take the time to celebrate this historic moment and 10 years of work by so many of you! I’m so grateful for your ongoing support. Since its inception in 1964, LWCF has been chronically underfunded … but that ends today! On June 17 the bill cleared the Senate and on July 22 it was passed by the US House of Representatives.
Check out Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici’s press release and you’ll find some familiar land trust voices! And a special thanks to our friends at the LWCF Coalition, too, for tireless work and remarkable resources through it all.
