Tribal Land Access & Return Legal Toolkit
Weaving a Shared Future
The purpose of this toolkit is to archive a comprehensive collection of practical resources and legal tools to support land access and land return to Indigenous peoples across the state of Oregon. Land trusts, nonprofit organizations, Tribal governments and Indigenous communities will benefit from the breadth of legal options available as they navigate land transfers, easements, and agreements.
Note that resources may be Oregon-specific and may not be adaptable to other states or contexts.
Knowledge Building
The toolkit is divided into three baskets: relearn, restructure, and rematriate.
We believe these baskets represent the phases conservation organizations must go through in order to build equitable practices and partnerships for land access and land return to Indigenous peoples.
Tribal Access Toolkit Use & Credits
The toolkit was created by the Coalition of Oregon Land Trusts and the Oregon Land Justice Project for community use. Some documents and resources included in the toolkit are property of other organizations or groups; all credit is due to their respective owners and creators.
The toolkit is a living archive and will be periodically updated and expanded, as needed. For questions or requests, please contact info@oregonlandtrusts.org or landjustice@oregonlandtrusts.org.
